Frequently Asked Questions
Who goes to a Speed Dating event?
Mainly professional singles who just don’t get the opportunity to meet new people through their work or circle of friends, whether they are single, unattached, separated, divorced or widowed. Essentially, the one thing everyone has in common is that they want to make new friends and are looking for new relationships.

What are the age ranges of your events?
We run events for all age groups. Our current events are for 23 - 36 years, 30 - 45 years and 40s & 50s.
Are there any specific requirements to attend an event?
You must be single, over 20 years of age and have an email address and/or mobile number.
I’m outside the age range specified for the event. Can I still attend?
Yes, you can. The age ranges specified are purely guidelines. If you are, or look as if you are outside the range, you may not get many matches and therefore could be disappointed.
Why don't you run more events for people in their 50s and 60s?
We get lots of requests from women in their 50s and 60s asking us to run events. Unfortunately we do not have the same demand from men in this age bracket to run as many events as we would like.
What if more of one sex than another register?
We control the registration process to ensure that we get an equal number of men and women attending at each of our events. We try not to book more than a 3 inbalance of men or women.
What happens when I arrive at the event?
When you arrive you will be given a Matchcard and a name badge. Our host will then introduce you to some other Speed Daters with whom you can have a drink at the bar. Once everyone has arrived our Host will explain exactly how the evening will work. You will then take a seat at a numbered table ready your first date.

What is the dress code for Speed Dating?
There isn’t one. Just wear what you feel comfortable in and be yourself. But remember, first impressions count!
How many dates will I get?
We aim to arrange our events around 10-15 dates, however our minimum numbers to host an event are 8 dates. Each date lasts 3-5 minutes, depending on numbers. In our experience, Speed Dating can be quite tiring and very thirsty work – as well as great fun!
Are these mini-dates long enough?
Yes, that’s what it’s all about. Speed Dating gives you enough time to see if there is potential or chemistry with your dates or if people just aren’t for you. If you both match, you can then arrange things from there.
How long does a Speed Dating event last?
The dating lasts around 2 hours, including a half time break. Many Speed Daters stay on after the event for a few drinks too.
Are the events held in private?
Yes. We hold our events either in private function rooms or a closed off area within the bar.
Can I come on my own?
Of course - a large percentage of both men and women do. Our host will make sure you are introduced to people and everyone normally mingles before and after the actual Speed Dating, so come along!
Can I bring a friend?
You are very welcome to come along with friends of either sex, but they also must have registered for the event and be single. You can even book your friends on to the event at the same time as yourself. You will need their email address to hand.
How many Speed Dating events can I attend?
As many as you like, as there are about 80% of new Speed Daters at every event.
Why do I need to book in advance?
We need to ensure a balance of men and women and that enough people will be attending each event. All events operate on a first come first served basis so it’s important to book early to avoid disappointment. If the event of your choice is fully booked, you can add your name to the waiting list and you will be contacted if a place becomes free.
What is the booking process?
First of all, you need to register your details on our website to create a username and password. You can then book your place online from our list of events showing.
When do I pay?
You pay with your credit or debit card when you book online and you will receive an email confirming your payment about the same time as you receive your booking confirmation email from Speed Dating in the City. We will also accept credit and debit card payments over the telephone.

What is your refund policy - cancellation by customer?

We will make every endeavour to hold events at the times, dates and locations specified on our web site. We reserve the right to change and/or cancel event times, dates and locations under certain circumstances, which may include, but are not limited to, venue and/or insufficient number of participants for the event. How do I find out if I've got any matches?
To find out who you have matched with, you will need to log on to our website after the event and submit your ticks from your matchcard. We encourage people to submit ticks within 3 days of the event. The event will be closed for matching after 14 days. Details of your matches will appear on the screen once you have input your ticks. You will be given an email address and/or mobile number, depending on the person's preferences.
Why does it say 'event not ready for matching'?
This means that we have not yet entered everyone's badge numbers of those who attended the event. We aim to have all events ready for matching by 11.00am the morning after the event.
What is a friendship match?
A friendship match occurs when either both people have ticked 'friend' or when one person has ticked 'friend' and the other person 'yes'.
Can I change my ticks once I've entered them?
You get two chances to submit your ticks. However, you cannot untick people you have already ticked.
I'm sure X ticked me, but it's not showing as a match?
People have 14 days to submit their ticks, so not all matches will be displayed until everyone has entered their ticks. Please keep checking the website.

What is the Speed Dating in the City Guarantee?
If you don't tick anyone you'd like to see again then we will offer you a free place to another event within one month of the event you have attended. To claim a free place, please email bookings@speeddatinginthecity.co.uk within 7 days of the event you have attended. You will only be eligible for this if you have logged onto the website and submitted 'no' against every attendee. Only one free place per paid event.

Which events are eligible for the Speed Dating in the City guarantee?
The Speed Dating in the City guarantee is only valid for our regular 23-36yrs and 30-45yrs speed dating events. Unfortunately, the guarantee is not eligible on our special 40s and 50s events.
Can I see who ticked me?
No. We will only give details of the number of ticks you receive, but not who ticked you, unless of course you have matched with them.
How many matches do people normally get?
The number of matches varies from event to event. But on average, people tend to get 2 or 3 matches. However, we have found that men seem to tick more than the ladies.
Can I transfer to a different event?
If you contact us by email or telephone within 3 working days before the event, we will do our best to move you to a future speed dating event. If we are able to book you onto this other event, you will be charged a £5 administration fee.
I don't have an email address. Can I still attend?
We accept bookings from people who don't have an email address. You will have to book over the phone and your mobile telephone number will be given to anyone you match with. You will need to call into our office on 0117 939 3207 after the event with your matchcard to hand. We will then process this for you over the phone.
My friend booked my place. How can I log on and check my matches?
You will need to log on with the email address your friend booked you with and the word password as your password. You will then be asked to upgrade your account before you can submit your ticks.
